Thomas Tuchel Expresses Disappointment Over Wembley Crowd Support Following Comfortable Win Over Wales.
The England head coach expressed his sadness that the England team did not enjoy stronger support from the home spectators during their impressive triumph over Wales on Thursday evening.
The manager was happy to see his side showcase their winning momentum, with goals from Morgan Rogers, Watkins, and Saka inside the first 20 minutes settling the game. Yet, he was displeased with the mood at the national stadium.
“We had limited training days to prepare against a organized team and we excelled,” Tuchel commented. “It could have been 5-0 up at half-time. We couldn’t score the additional ones. There was little noise. There was no support from the crowd. We did everything to win.”
“What more can you give in 20 minutes? We prevented them escape. When you only hear just the Welsh supporters for half an hour, it’s disappointing because the squad warranted greater backing today.”
“I maintain my words. There’s nothing more than leading three goals up in a derby. I would have wished for a greater support in phases where it gets difficult.”
“In the second half, to support us, there was a bit too much support for Wales. It might have aided us to regain energy, but that’s football and so be it.”
Squad Decisions Justified by Performance
Apart from risking a dispute among supporters, the manager also raised eyebrows by omitting Bellingham and Foden from his squad. But the choice was backed up by Morgan Rogers impressing again in the attacking midfield role and getting his maiden goal for his country.
“That’s his style,” Tuchel said. “He is a No 10 and he is fighting for his spot.”
Bellamy Seeks Lessons from Defeat
The Wales manager hopes that his team, who face Belgium in a key World Cup qualifier on next week, learn from their disappointing first-half display.
“That’s the reason I wanted this match,” the manager stated. “I wanted to assess where we are. What are our ambitions? Who do we want to be? Today fills me with inspiration.”
Injury Concern for Watkins
Ollie Watkins was substituted at the break after hitting a post and will be a doubt when England play Latvia in Riga in a qualifier on Tuesday.
