Donald Trump Golf Course in Scotland Reported of Violating Sewage Limits

Documents indicate that Donald Trump’s resort in Aberdeenshire has breached wastewater pollution limits on fourteen occasions beginning in 2019.

About the Golf Resort

This two-course property, which features a luxury hotel, a scotch lounge, and two restaurants, uses a self-contained sewage system. This system treats wastewater before discharging it into filter mounds for natural filtration.

Environmental Breaches

According to sampling results from environmental regulators, discharge tests at the location exceeded allowed levels on multiple instances, such as several times in 2024 and one time in the first half of this year.

Test results showed elevated levels of BOD, suspended solids, and nitrogen compounds—indicators of improperly treated human waste.

Of the 14 incidents, eight were classified as “upper tier” events, meaning they had the potential to cause immediate ecological damage.

Statements from the Company

An executive from the golf resort stated that ever since the wastewater license was granted in 2013, renewal applications have never been refused.

“It is completely incorrect to insinuate that our system was causing environmental damage,” she said. “Our team is very pleased with the ecological enhancements made at our courses.”

The company also noted that exceedances were rare and attributed to monitoring frequency instead of ongoing negligence.

Regulator’s Stance

An official from the environmental agency stated that although improved compliance is expected, the actual environmental impact was deemed minimal.

The agency explained that the natural filtration method offers additional purification before the wastewater enters the environment.

Background

The golf course was developed in 2012 on the coastal dunes north of Aberdeen. Local activists have previously raised concerns over construction impact to the adjacent protected habitat.

Initially, regulators had raised concerns about the development, in part due to the absence of a link to the public sewage system.
