Diving into a Unusual Steam Game Trial: Playing as a Piece of Feces on a Quest to Reach the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and enthusiasts have found numerous entertaining indie games. Yet, one stands out for its quirky concept. Named Unko Technica, this retro-inspired jumping adventure lets you play a hero that is actually a turd trying to make its way to a restroom. In case you're wondering, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."

Player controls is easy to grasp: you only need a one button to leap. Across one hundred fifty levels, encounter tough enemies and unlock a market to purchase customizations for your poop character.

Time your jumps with caution, since one error means restarting the level. Bounce off air pockets to launch your character to new heights, traverse fragile ledges, and activate switches to unlock secret routes. Gather UN-KOINS to purchase more difficult game content in which the action gets crazy.

Visually, the experience shows off vibrant level designs and a killer soundtrack. The simple graphics with morphing geometric shapes may remind gamers of classic titles like Earthbound.

Although hard to recall similar titles where you control a dung character, gaming have long included toilet humor. For instance, in Death Stranding, players make throwables from character droppings. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use manure as plant food. Naturally, this theme is present heavily in the adventure The Stick of Truth.

Despite its humorous premise, Unko Technica has already garnered notable recognition, such as being named best at a major publisher's indie contest in 2023. This trial version is accessible at present on Steam, with the final release set to debut on computers this November.
