Over the weekend, federal officials announced that the President has authorized the deployment of the national guard to the Illinois city, while simultaneously a federal judge halted his team from sending troops to Portland.
White House Reveals Illinois City Deployment
An official representative for the administration revealed that Donald Trump had given the go-ahead for using Chicago-area militia personnel, pointing to what she called “continuing unrest and unrest” that city officials have not quelled.
On the West Coast, court official the presiding judge supported the argument from Oregon that Trump deploying federalized national guard troops to the city would probably escalate rather than calm demonstrations.
“This judgment supports what residents of Oregon already know: justice has been served, and reality triumphed,” Oregon’s governor stated following the restraining order was issued. “No rebellion exists in the city. The country is not endangered. No fires, no explosives, no deaths due to social disturbances.”
Chief Executive Calls Decision Unwarranted
The state's top official, the state leader called the move unjustified and “a staged event – lacking genuine intent to ensure citizen security.”
Federal Court Prevents Portland Troop Deployment
Donald Trump has encountered resistance to his strategy of sending troops to municipalities with Democratic mayors he describes as out of control, following a US district judge blocked his government's effort to send the state militia to Portland.
Trump had stated on 27 September that he would deploy troops to the city, “approving Full Force, if necessary”, disregarding requests from local officials and the Oregon's representatives. A group of 17 mayors in the state had resisted the forces dispatch.
